Together with Victim Support Europe and other victims’ support organisations, AdVIC welcomes the European Commission’s publication of amendments to the Victims’ Rights Directive. This significant step marks a remarkable milestone in safeguarding the rights and well-being of victims across Europe.

The EU Victims’ Rights Directive was adopted in 2012 to establish standards for victims of crime, however, its vague text and exceptions have limited progress and have called for significant improvements.

The European Commission’s amendments to improve court assistance, reporting, and compensation are much appreciated, but more comprehensive changes are needed.
